Steampunk...OZ?

PostPosted by Rayven » Tue Nov 16, 2010 10:09 pm

Yes, that's right. An upstart called Emerald City Expeditions has put out a Steampunk Wizard of OZ RPG. The game is called OZ: Dark and Terrible. You can read a little about it here. This is one of the few times I have seen Amazon NOT offer a discount on an in print book.

I might pick this up this weekend. If I do, I'll let you know how the rules look.
STARE INTO MY EYES FOREVER
LET ME TAKE YOU IN MY ARMS
DANCE WITH ME OUT IN THE GARDEN
WHERE TOMORROW NEVER COMES
FOLLOW ME INTO THE DARKNESS
WHERE THE NIGHTMARES NEVER FADE
WHISPER DREAMS MY FALLEN ANGEL
FROM WHICH YOU WILL NEVER WAKE
Religion starts wars. Spirituality ends them

The rules themselves are not impressive. Something of a mix of White Wolf's Storyteller rules and West End Games' D6 System, with a dash of GURPS thrown in for flavor (or lack thereof).

The setting has its moments, but it's not the "dark" Oz that the publishers are promising. It's got some verisimilitude, making it feel a bit more "realistic" than a purely fantastical Oz, but no feeling of pervasive darkness.
