Horror Flicks for Halloween

PostPosted by verdilak » Sun Oct 17, 2010 12:40 am

Since Halloween is nearing, what are everyone's favorite horror flicks?

Me? The following are ones that i love off the top of my head:

Trick 'r Treat
30 Days of Night (Seriously, this one is awesome, but the sequel leaves much to be desired)
The Mist
Dawn of the Dead, the remake
Paranormal Activity
Splice
The Crazies
Jennifer's Body (though, I wouldn't call it horror, more of a drama, but still decent)
Drag Me to Hell
I Am Legend
Shawn of the Dead
DogHouse (Freaking awesome zombie flick!)

I know there are more, but right now I can't really think of them.

Oh, and the only two movies that just plain freaked me out to the point that I returned them from where I got them are The Ring and Mothman... didn't want the kids to get their hands on them.

I own Jennifer's Body because I thought it was a horror flick, and it turned out to be too much comedy for me.

My favorites:
Pet Cemetery
Event Horizon
Pandorum
Phantoms
The Omen (either version. The 2006 and the 1970's one are almost word-for-word the same, so if you want visual go for the 2006 version with Julia Stiles)
The Cell
Whiteout (more suspense than horror, but still awesome)
Saw (just the first one, fuck the rest)
Anything Romero (Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, etc)
The Resident Evil series
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (with DeNiro)
Silent Hill
Children of the Corn (make SURE you get the one from the 80's. The 2009 remake blows)
Silence of the Lambs
A Haunting in Connecticut (the newest one...from 2008 or 2009)
Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween
The Strangers (do NOT let your kids watch this)
Quarantine
Candyman
Wishmaster
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Anything Wes Craven, ESPECIALLY Wes Craven's Vampires
STARE INTO MY EYES FOREVER
LET ME TAKE YOU IN MY ARMS
DANCE WITH ME OUT IN THE GARDEN
WHERE TOMORROW NEVER COMES
FOLLOW ME INTO THE DARKNESS
WHERE THE NIGHTMARES NEVER FADE
WHISPER DREAMS MY FALLEN ANGEL
FROM WHICH YOU WILL NEVER WAKE
Religion starts wars. Spirituality ends them

Now I want to watch The Strangers heh.

Another movie I couldn't get through was The Hills Have Eyes.. but that was due to the whole baby scene,... one that started I had to stop it. I can't do movies where babies are harmed or even have suggested harm thrown at them. Just can't... *shudders*

Another movie I forgot about was [REC], which has subtitles.. but if you liked Quarantine, then you'll love [REC] since Quarantine is a remake of [REC] (and [REC] is way better)

The Strangers gave some of my horror fan friends nightmares. I loved it because Liv Tyler gets gutted by a guy wearing a burlap sack over his head.

Definitely The Orphanage, hands down my favorite horror movie (besides the classics, probably)

Session Nine's also scary, if you can get past the occassional bad acting

Wait, what? That's a COMEDY. Don't get me wrong, I love that movie...but it's not horror.

Yeah... Zombieland is a comedy, van Helsing is adventure.

So, guess the question remains is... what constitutes a horror to you? Me? Gotta make me jump, it has to make me look twice at any odd sounds, and it has to make me look twice at any shadows.

Quit talking about The Grudge. It sucks. Go watch the original version from Japan, called Ju-On. MUCH better.

Some horror favourites of mine;

Antichrist (2009)
Drag Me To Hell (2009)
Evil Dead II (1987)
Wolf Creek (2005) - though have only watched it once as it's truly horrific
Chopper (2000) - The Mark Brandon Reed story, I call it horror. True Horror

There's my most bone~chilling and laughable mix of horror films I could create and keep it small and quality. Hope some get included in your Halloween nights
