Free Left 4 Dead 1 campaign "I Hate Mountains"

It's not an argument worth having here—both titles do different things well—but the team behind the sublime add-on campaign "I Hate Mountains" drew much inspiration from the harder-edged and darker horror of the first game. In fact, the campaign only works with the first game as of publication, and the asking price is just right: free.

The campaign's website gives you some instructions to ensure you see and hear all the new content. Make sure you do the proper amount of work before beginning the game; the new sights and sounds may be subtle, but they add to the experience. In one scene, a clutch of cockroaches scatters out of a cereal box when you draw near, and the new sound effects create an effective sense of place. The campaign features four sections and a finale; with multiple paths to take and large environments to explore, you'll be rewarded for playing more than once.

The campaign features some memorable settings, and feels much different than the existing levels

The less said about the campaign the better, as there are some great surprises in store. Reading the graffiti remains a fun diversion. What's great about the campaign is how well all the sections flow into each other; the level of detail and thought put into the setting and the game's flow is impressive. (I will note that there is a little more exploration than you may be used to from the official Left 4 Dead content.) We finished the campaign in around an hour and twenty minutes playing on Normal, and I can't wait to play it again. This is a team to watch out for, and it would not shock us if they were picked up by a major studio.

This may be a fan-made project, but it's a must-play if you are looking for a reason to revisit Left 4 Dead. Head over to the official page to grab the campaign for the PC version of the game, and long live Chicago Ted!

Now toonly get this onto the xbox 360!
